James Clark Moore collection, 1683-1830.

The bulk of the collection is comprised of land records for properties in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. Many documents have typed labels pasted to them. Lands surveyed were used for private residences and for public buildings, such as schoolhouses and jails. These records include drafts of surveys, maps, and warrants, and are arranged alphabetically by location. Also included are miscellaneous papers, including a 1793 broadside for a play called "Wild Oats," an indenture for a female servant, and a 1784 letter written by Edward Hand regarding the Treaty of Paris. An account book belonging to Richard Peters, 1755-1758, contains a list of the properties with liquor licenses and also contains information about marriage licenses that were given, for which Peters collected fees. Peters was the secretary to John and Thomas Penn during their proprietorship.
